2010 Trip to Hawaii - Saturday & Sunday

My parents decided to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary in Hawaii.  Specifically at a very posh resort called Ko Olina Beach Resort.  They wanted their whole family to join them so they paid for all of their children, spouses and grandchildren to join them for a week in Hawaii.

Saturday (July 17)

On Saturday, July 17, Trudy, Benjamin, Catalina & I dropped of Jack Dog at the Doggie Dude Ranch and headed to KCI to catch our flight to Salt Lake City.  We had three hops to get to Hawaii, Kansas City to Salt Lake City to San Diego to Honolulu.

I won't lie I hate traveling.  I don't care if I travel by airplane, bus (yech!), or car I don't like the act of traveling.  Once I get where ever I am going I start to relax.   I keep wanting to say "Scotty beam me up." so I can just go where I want to go and be there at the speed of light.

In San Diego we were joined by Beth, Max, Andrew, Sam, and Rachel Ellicott.  Catalina and Rachel became the velcro twins during the remainder of the trip.

We were picked up by a limo at the airport in Honolulu which was  bit cramped when you put 9 people and their luggage into it.  Mom & Dad meet us at the resort and helped us get settled in.

Sunday (7/18/2010)

On Sunday morning I made arrangements for a rental car with GPS (important for later) so we could go to church and to the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet.  We went to Joy of Christ in Pearl City and we were able to find it pretty easily with the GPS.  Unfortunately they are in transition and had moved to another church.  Thank goodness for the GPS we were able to make it to worship service with 10 minutes to spare.

After church we went to a lovely chinese restaurant where the food was excellent.  Just blind luck.  Then off to the Swap Meet (a few photographs).

What is the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet?  The swap meet is a giant flea market that surrounds the Aloha Stadium (yes the place where the NFL Pro Bowl is usually played).  It is held on Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday.  This is the place to buy your souvenirs while you are in Hawaii.  Much less expensive and the quality is at least as good as what you will find in the 'townie tourist spots'.

We made it back just in time to go to the family Luau.  The luau was at the Paradise Cove Luau which is part of the resort complex.  Here are some of the photographs I took.
